The New York Times bestselling author of the Cavanaugh Brothers novels returns to the Cavanaugh’s Texas Triple C ranch as the brothers confront the painful memories of their childhood and the truth about their sister’s murder…
No matter how many fights UFC champion Cole Cavanaugh wins, he can’t rid himself of the guilt of not having saved his twin sister’s life. Now, not only is he facing his arch enemy in the ring, he’s fighting to uncover the truth about Cass’s death. But will winning both fights truly give him the retribution and absolution he seeks? Or does he need the healing power of love to finally move on with his life?
The mystery surrounding Cass’s murder also haunts veterinarian Grace Hunter. Many believe that her father might hold the key to the truth. Unfortunately the ex-Sheriff’s deteriorating mental state makes it impossible to separate fact from fiction. As Cole persuades Grace to help him unlock the elusive clues, her defenses weaken. She finds the Stetson-wearing fighter irresistible. But while the truth could free Cole’s heart, it could very well end up shattering hers.
Have met Grace in Bonded and have read more about her involvement in Broken.
Cole have been carrying the guilt of his twin sister’s – Cass – death. Since being back in River Black him and his brothers have been working on finding her sister’s killer. With Grace hot and cold in giving them leads from her father with dementia, Cole is desperate and even went beyond lying and breaking Dr. Grace Hunter’s office to know where her father lives.
Grace’s father is the only family she has left. He was there after losing her mother in a car accident. Her father has dementia and has been rambling on and off about Cass’s death. But now that her father’s best friend is involve, she was afraid that her father might also be involve. And she is willing to help the Cavanaugh’s to get every lead and answers just to clear her father’s name.
Cole and Grace didn’t get off the best start but they both decided to help each other though they have different reasons and started digging through her father’s old files. Grace wants the Cavanaugh to solve this murder and have some closure at the same time she wants to know if her father is really involve.
I love the smart banter in this book. But what I love most is how Cole opened up to Grace. Though not totally in the beginning but as they spend time together digging the murder case, Cole saw Grace as Grace. Sassy, beautiful and smart. He felt at home for the first time since he has been living in the hotel since he left Triple C and doesn’t have a stable place to call home.
Grace brings out the best in him. She realized that beyond the hot cowboy and tatted UFC fighter, is a broken man burdened with guilt. A man who has demons inside him that fighting in the cage is his only release. And she is willing to be there for him.
Their love story isn’t smooth at all. But in the end, they are each other’s home.
