Title: The Darkest Link
Series: Second Circle Tattoos Book 4
Author: Scarlett Cole
Published: August 30, 2016

When her car breaks down off the side of a lonely highway far from her sunny Miami home, tattoo artist Lia never expected her very own white knight to ride up on the back of a barely street-legal motorcycle...and she never expected to fall for her dark savior. After a string of failed relationships and a bruised heart, Lia is not looking for forever, and the hot mechanic, with his sexy scruff and shaggy hair, is simply impossible to resist and the perfect candidate for mind-blowingly-perfect, no-strings-attached one night stand.Reid left his life in Chicago far behind him and hasn't been back, but he's never been able to escape the guilt he feels about his own painful role in inviting a monster into his baby sister's life. A monster who almost destroyed her. Being with Lia is an unexpected gift, one he doesn't feel he deserves, and their one night together has him wanting more than he should. Especially since she doesn't know the truth about his past. However, when he finds Lia’s bracelet in his bed, he has the perfect excuse to drive down and surprise her at her tattoo studio, Second Circle Tattoos, in Miami. He's in for an even bigger shock - and a fist to the face - when his past and present collide in the humid Miami weather when he runs into the last person he’d ever expect to see in a tattoo studio: Harper, the sister he betrayed, and the last link to his former life.
I am not sure if this will be the last book of Second Circle Tattoo Series or not. There are still other characters that are mentioned in the book and hopefully they’ll have their HEA.
Reid was introduced in book 1 – Trent and Harper’s story – but wasn’t mention in other books. He is Harper’s eldest brother. He left home 6 years ago with the guilt that burdened him all those years. Guilt that he was the cause of what happened to Harper. Guilt that because of what he did, Nathan didn’t get the sentence he deserve. He left Chicago and started his own garage, mentoring kids and just living a simple new life.
Lia is a tattoo artist. Came from a wealthy family, her father despises her because of everything that she is. Tattoos and vintage dresses. Trying to run for a governor position in Florida, her Dad is trying to control her using her mother. With the promise that she will look after her mother, Lia will try everything she can to support and be with her.
Lia was traveling to another city to attend an expo when her car broke down. And her comes her knight in shining armor riding in a bike instead of a horse. Planning to just have a one-night stand, they both realized it wasn’t enough. When Reid went to Second Circle to return Lia’s bracelet, that is when he met someone from the past.
Reid didn’t expect to be welcomed by a fist and seeing her sister again for the first time since he left. A lot of questions as to why she was here in Florida and not in Chicago. Questions why he left her. Just when everything was cleared up between him and Harper, their past came into the picture. He thought that the blast from the past is the one trying to hurt them but it turns out it is the one who they least expected to.
During the times when Lia was recovering from the “almost hit from a car” accident they became closer and realized that whatever they have is worth figuring out together. With Lia’s family problem, she is trying and struggling to save her Mom from her Dad.
Reid and Lia together are so great and HOT! Though the suspense is unlike the previous book, I did not see it coming when I knew who is trying to kill or hurt them. I still thought it was connected with Reid and Harper’s past.
I am a sucker for romantic suspense so it maybe to thrilling or not, I LOVE IT! And I really love the family, friends interaction. You can still get scenes from the previous characters. I was hoping Eric and Truly will get their book or even the detectives but I don’t really know. I cannot wait to read Preload!
