This series is way more than romance. I LOVE 8 Second Decision and Rules of the Ride, but I LOVE this book more. It is about love and family.
Marvel Slatter is the youngest of the Slatter Brothers. He is the quiet and responsible one. His life revolves around the ranch. After their father pulled all three of them in the mess he made, Marvel had enough. They were scammed and stomped on. He knew he had to do something to get justice for all their hard works and efforts. But in the end, he almost lost his own life.
Clover moved to Texas from California to have this change of environment. Having an “Ice Queen” mother, she found comfort in working as a nurse and taking care of patients. She prefers to stay and sleep in the on-call room than going home to her uncle’s place where she was staying.
Marvel and Clover are meant to be. Both two lost souls who saved each other. Marvel living the guilt of the result of his rash decisions and Clover lacking love growing up. Clover’s self-esteem is low because of her mother. Growing up being criticized in every move, she found comfort in caring other people. And Marvel from a happy and lively cowboy to a ghost living in guilt and even wishing he would’ve died instead of the others.
This book si way beyond the romance between Clover and Marvel. They really aren’t too warm in the very beginning especially in how they meet, but in the end, they found comfort in each other. Clover is so patient in dealing a moody and grumpy Marvel because she understood the pain he is dealing with, even if she doesn’t know what causes everything. Clover even ended up throwing herself in front of those bullets to save him.
The family interaction is what I love most in this book. The Slatter brothers never turned their back to their youngest brother, even if he causes everything. Marvel made some drastic decisions that put their ranch and their loved ones in danger. Always taking each other’s back thru thick and thin. And with them is their ever supportive Granddad guiding them and their spouses who understood and supported them.
