Merek Slater & Challis Jones both grew up in the rodeo world. Merek being the 2-World Champion in bareback bronc riding and Challis as a barrel racer and daughter of the famous bull rider.
Merek Slater, together with his two brothers, Maverick and Marvel trying to save their granddad’s ranch while Challis, alone doing everything to buy her Dad’s ranch back from her step-mother. She is independent and not used in accepting help from others.
I love a strong female lead in every book that I have read, but what I love most in this book is Merek. He is so Alpha through and through but selfless in loving Challis. They started at the wrong foot when they met and then realized they are both in the same situation. Both their problems are about financial matter. He is willing to help Challis financially even if he will be using his own money. But Challis is independent. So for Challis to earn enough money to buy the ranch back, she works in the Silver Star Ranch back with the Slatter brothers.
There are a lot of times that Challis is being a big b**** and trying to push Merek away, but Merek is so patient. Don’t get me wrong, there were a few times that Merek left her, get drunk because of Challis’ issues, but in the end, he haul is a** back up and still comes to her. Swallow his pride and take all the punches that Challis is throwing at him. But still, he is with her.
I love this book. Even though Challis was emotionally hurting, she found strength through Merek! And that is what love should be!
